Strata Orchestra exists to excavate layers of meaning in music, discovering connections that were always present but hidden from view.

For its founding concert, the ensemble performs Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 in Klaus Simon’s chamber arrangement. Stripped back to chamber forces, the symphony is heard with new clarity, intimacy, and immediacy of expression.

Conductor Euan Shields was First Prize winner of the Siemens Hallé International Conductors

Competition 2023 and is currently completing his tenure as Assistant Conductor of the Hallé Orchestra.
